Colorado alert · Enrollment deadlines

Your 2027 health plan renews itself this year. Check what it renewed into.

Connect for Health Colorado renews most plans automatically by November 1. A notice arrives in late October, and what it says decides whether you need to do anything.

If you have a plan through Connect for Health Colorado, you probably won't have to do anything to stay covered in 2027. That's new this year, and it's mostly good news.

The exchange now renews eligible customers automatically, by the start of Open Enrollment on November 1. In past years renewal came in stages. This time you'll already have a 2027 plan on the day enrollment opens.

What renewal can't do is make that plan the right one.

Watch for the notice in the last week of October

The exchange plans to send a combined renewal and enrollment notice during the last week of October. It says which 2027 plan you're in, what it costs after your financial help, how to pay, and the deadlines that apply to you. A copy also goes into your account under "My Documents," so a lost letter doesn't leave you guessing.

Find two numbers on it, the monthly premium and the deductible, and compare them with what you pay now.

A "renewal exclusion notice" means you have work to do

Some people can't be renewed automatically. If that's you, the letter you get is called a renewal exclusion notice, and it means you have no plan for 2027 until you choose one. Please don't set it aside.

Cigna's individual medical customers are in the same position, because there's nothing for those plans to renew into. Here's what Cigna leaving means for you.

What can change underneath a renewal

Being renewed keeps you covered. It doesn't keep everything the same. Your premium, your financial help, your benefits and your doctors can all change from one year to the next, and this year several of them did:

  • The Division of Insurance approved an average premium increase of 10% for 2027, before any help is applied
  • Colorado Premium Assistance is a little smaller, at up to $70 a month for the first person in your household and $25 for each other person who pays a premium
  • Networks move, so a doctor who takes your plan this year may not take its 2027 version

For people who get financial help, the Division estimates the increase at about $20 a month. That's an average, and an average isn't your bill, which is why the notice deserves ten minutes of your time.

Shopping no longer cancels your renewal

This part is different from past years. To compare other plans, you fill in your application again, and doing that leaves your renewal alone. It stays in place unless you enroll in something else, and then the new plan replaces it.

So there's no risk in looking. The worst outcome is finding out the plan you were renewed into is still the right one for you.

The week the exchange is closed

From 6 a.m. on October 20 to 7 p.m. on October 27, 2026, Connect for Health Colorado's website, application and customer service are all offline for annual updates. Nobody can log in, report a change or enroll that week.

If you have a change to report, like a new job or a new address, finish it before October 20. And if the shutdown made you miss a 60-day deadline after a life event, or held up adding a new baby, contact the exchange or us as soon as it reopens.

The dates

Open Enrollment runs from November 1, 2026, to January 15, 2027. Changes you make by December 15 start on January 1, and changes from December 16 to January 15 start on February 1.

Where we come in

We'll read your renewal notice with you, check your doctors and prescriptions against the plan you were renewed into, and tell you plainly whether to keep it. If it's still the right plan, that's the answer, and one phone call got you there.
